Van Jones, former Green Jobs advisor under President Obama, publicly backed President Trump’s hardline stance against Iran acquiring nuclear weapons. Speaking after a trip to Israel, Jones warned that Iran’s regime poses a serious threat and stated bluntly, “They cannot have a bomb.”
Jones criticized progressives for failing to grasp the severity of the Iranian threat. He described Iran as a radical regime that empowers terrorist proxies, abuses women, and chants for the destruction of the United States and Israel. “Iran is not a normal country,” Jones said, “normal countries don’t blind women for showing hair or empower gangs to rape and fire rockets.” He called on the left to stop downplaying the threat and support action to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power.
Highlighting the chants of “death to America” and “death to Israel” from Iranian leadership, Jones said the decision to strike Iran’s nuclear program should not be controversial. He stated either Israel or the United States must act before it’s too late. “This is not a Trump thing,” he added, calling it a matter of national and global security.
Jones’ remarks come after the U.S. launched strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities under Trump’s command. While progressive Democrats have condemned the strikes, Jones diverged, affirming that action against Iran’s nuclear ambitions is necessary and justified.
The statement marks a rare moment of agreement between a high-profile Democrat and President Trump, underlining bipartisan recognition of Iran’s growing danger.
