Elon Musk Shares Negative Drug Test After NYT Accusations, Challenges Media to Follow Suit

A new drug scandal involving Elon Musk unfolded this week after The New York Times reported that Musk was using multiple substances—including ketamine, ecstasy, mushrooms, and possibly Adderall—during the 2024 campaign, with an alleged frequency affecting his health. In response, Musk tweeted a June 11 urine drug test showing negative results across several substances, including ketamine, ecstasy, cocaine, benzodiazepines, and opioids.

The test, conducted at Fastest Labs in South Austin, emerged 12 days after the Times report, raising questions about its conclusiveness—urine tests typically detect substances ingested within 2–10 days. Critics noted this timing could have allowed Musk to “cleanse” his system. Musk responded with dismissive humor, captioning the results “lol,” and publicly challenged The New York Times and Wall Street Journal to publish their own tests.

The Times defended its investigation, stating that Musk’s test doesn’t contradict its findings and reaffirming confidence in their reporting.

This controversy follows previous Wall Street Journal reports that alleged Musk used LSD, cocaine, ketamine, mushrooms, and other substances—claims that reportedly triggered concern among Tesla and SpaceX executives. Musk shut down one WSJ report, and his attorney confirmed he regularly undergoes random drug testing at SpaceX and has never failed.
