Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) distributed a fundraising email that calls for Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to be deported. Omar is a naturalized U.S. citizen.
“Friend, we should have never let Ilhan Omar into our country. And frankly, America would be a much better place if she were to be sent back to Somalia,” the email, obtained by Axios, says.
“Recently, it came out that Ilhan Omar is hosting free workshops for Somalians, who are in our country illegally, on how to evade ICE and deportation,” the email continues. “It could not be more blatant: llhan Omar is more loyal to illegal Somalians than she is to the United States, or the office she was elected to. It is an absolute disgrace.”
The fundraising email goes on to assert that Omar has enabled a “full-scale invasion of our country.”
Gill’s email follows Omar advising Somalians residing in the United States on how to avoid ICE.
“I advise the Somalian people that if ICE attempts to question you. You are not obligated to answer their questions. Just state you were advised by a lawyer not to answer questions. Disclosure of your name, immigration status and the mode of entry is not mandatory. Learn the laws and prepare yourself and refrain from disclosing information that you would prefer them not to know.” she said, according a translation.
Gill said of Omar’s statements: “America would be a better place if @IlhanMN were deported back to Somalia.”
Gill clarified that while Omar cannot be deported as a naturalized citizen, the United States would be “better off were she deported.”
