Trump Attorney to Investigate Jan 6 Cases

President Donald Trump’s Acting US Attorney for DC, Ed Martin, launched a probe into US Attorney Matthew Graves’ prosecutions of the Jan 6 protesters.

Martin has ordered prosecutors to hand over records related to the cases, NBC News reported. The review centers on the felony obstruction charges brought against several hundred protesters.

In an email obtained by the outlet, Martin wrote that the use of 18 U.S. Code 1512 was a “great failure of our office.”

The Supreme Court later overturned the obstruction charge.

“To prove a violation of Section 1512(c)(2), the Government must establish that the defendant impaired the availability or integrity for use in an official proceeding of records, documents, objects, or as we earlier explained, other things used in the proceeding, or attempted to do so,” the court wrote. “See supra, at 9. The judgment of the D. C. Circuit is therefore vacated, and the case is remanded for further proceedings consistent with this opinion. On remand, the D.C. Circuit may assess the sufficiency of Count Three of Fischer’s indictment in light of our interpretation of Section 1512(c)(2).”

Upon being appointed and sworn in as the Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Martin said, “I want to thank President Donald Trump for trusting me to help him re-establish law and order in Washington, D.C.”

“It is the honor of my lifetime to accept his nomination as Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. I pledge to work as hard as he does for America, even though no one outworks him,” he said. “I want to thank my wife and family for carrying me to this day, and I pray to the Lord Jesus Christ for the continued wisdom and courage I have always found in Him.”
