James Comer Backs AOC’s Oversight Committee Bid

House Oversight Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) announced that he supports Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (R-NY) for the committee’s ranking member.

Speaking on “Fox News Live,” Comer said, “I think that if you look at the current leadership with the oversight committee on the Democrat side, they’ve had Jamie Raskin leading them. So the Democrats have nowhere to go but up. Jamie Raskin has been wrong.”

Comer explained that Ocasio-Cortez is “better spoken” than Raskin. “Look, I think that, you know, the Democrats are turning on AOC. My endorsement of AOC is probably hurting her, which… I think is amusing,” he said. “They’re wanting to go back to another boring old guy like Gerry Connolly. But look, AOC is, you know, I think she represents a big segment of the Democratic Party that believes in socialism, that believes in the Green New Deal, that believes in Wokeism. So, if the Democrats want a real Democrat to lead the oversight committee on their side, I think AOC is perfect for them.”

The chairman added that AOC is “a lot nicer than Jamie Raskin, and she’s pleasant to be around. So, yeah, again, they have nowhere to go but up after Jamie Raskin.”

In announcing her bid to become the top Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, AOC wrote in a letter that the “responsibility of leading Democrats on the House Oversight Committee during Donald Trump’s second term in the White House is a profound and consequential one. Now, more than ever, we must focus on the Committee’s strong history of both holding administrations accountable and taking on the economic precarity and inequality that is challenging the American way of life.”

“In the 119th Congress, Oversight Committee Democrats will face an important task: we must balance our focus on the incoming president’s corrosive actions and corruption with a tangible fight to make life easier for America’s working class,” she wrote.
