Democratic U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters expressed concern about potential violence from Donald Trump supporters if the presumed Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election were to lose, according to RadarOnline.com. Waters appeared on MSNBC’s The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart and addressed Trump’s statements to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about accepting election results.
“Well, first of all, you can’t trust anything that Donald Trump has to say,” Waters responded when asked about Trump’s claims. She expressed worry over Trump’s refusal to accept previous election results and his remarks hinting at possible violence.
“We should take him seriously,” Waters asserted. “This man does not believe in the Constitution. He wants to be a dictator.”
Capehart referenced Trump’s recent Time interview where he stated he would respect constitutional term limits if reelected. Waters dismissed this, stating, “No. Absolutely not. You can’t believe anything that Donald Trump has to say.”
Waters urged the government to outline plans to protect against potential violence if Trump loses. “I’m going to ask the Justice Department and I’m going to ask the president to tell us what they are going to do to protect this country against violence if he loses,” she emphasized.
Fellow California Congressman Rep. Robert Garcia echoed Waters’ concerns, stating, “If Donald Trump gets reelected, there is no doubt that he will try to stay in office beyond his four-year term.” Garcia warned of Trump’s potential impact on democracy and elections, urging a serious approach to the situation.
