House Oversight Committee Considers Resolution to Hold Hunter Biden in Contempt of Congress

The House Oversight Committee announced a markup to consider a resolution to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress.

“Our investigation has produced significant evidence suggesting President Biden knew of, participated in, and benefitted from his family cashing in on the Biden name. We planned to question Hunter Biden about this record of evidence, but he blatantly defied two lawful subpoenas, choosing to read a prepared statement outside of the Capitol instead of appearing for testimony as required,” Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said in a statement.

“Hunter Biden’s willful refusal to comply with our subpoenas constitutes contempt of Congress and warrants referral to the appropriate United States Attorney’s Office for prosecution. We will not provide him with special treatment because of his last name.”

The markup will occur on January 10, 2024.

Last month, Hunter Biden failed to appear for his deposition.

He spoke from the Capitol lawn, saying the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into his business dealings is “illegitimate.”

“I’m here today to make sure the House committee’s illegitimate investigations of my family do not proceed on distortions, manipulated evidence, & lies,” Biden said. “I’m here today to acknowledge I have made mistakes in my life & wasted opportunities and privileges I was afforded. For that I am responsible.”
