New York, California Approves 60% of Asylum Cases

A report from Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse found that California and New York approve 60% of asylum seekers.

New York approves 61% of cases and California approves 66% of cases.

The numbers are almost three times greater than the rates of Texas and Florida.

Florida approves 23% of claims 23% and Texas approves 19% of claims.

Between January and August 2023, New York and California have approved an estimated 13,200 asylum seekers each.

New Yorkers have said that they fear the migrant influx will “destroy” New York City, according to a poll from Siena College.

“While other issues in Washington and abroad have largely driven the news cycle over the last few weeks, the influx of migrants to New York remains top of mind for voters, with 84% saying it’s a serious – 57% very serious – problem for the state,” said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.

“Seldom do we see an issue where at least 79% of Democrats, Republicans, independents, men, women, upstaters, downstaters, Blacks, whites, Latinos, Catholics, Jews, and Protestants all agree – that the migrant influx is a serious problem.”
