In recent weeks, Los Angeles has become the destination for a series of buses transporting migrants from Texas, with the fourth one arriving on Tuesday evening.
As reported by the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, the vehicle carried 41 migrants, including six minors with ages ranging from one to fifteen years old.
Initially, 45 asylum seekers left Texas, but a family of four got off the bus in Arizona to meet with their sponsors, according to The Los Angeles Times.
The migrant passengers came from an array of nations such as Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Guatemala, Haiti, and Honduras.
According to the Coalition, Texas state officials are suspected of funding these buses.
It’s noteworthy that Governors Greg Abbott of Texas and Ron DeSantis of Florida, both Republicans, have been instrumental in sending thousands of migrants to states led by Democrats.
The migrants have been sent to so-called “sanctuary” states, which are states that actively offer political support to illegal immigrants through an official government capacity.
These states include:
- California
- Colorado
- Connecticut
- Illinois
- Massachusetts
- New Jersey
- New Mexico
- New York
- Oregon
- Vermont
- Washington
Governors Abbott and DeSantis claim that this move is a protest against what they perceive as the Biden administration’s lack of effectiveness in immigration and border security measures.
June 14 marked the first time that Texas Governor Abbott decided to send migrants from his state to Los Angeles.
When these migrants arrived in LA, they were received by the immigration coalition along with other community groups, according to CNN.
These groups offered them necessities like food, hygiene kits, clothes, and even legal consultations with immigration attorneys.
Furthermore, these migrants are planned to be connected with their families or sponsors across the U.S. West Coast.
A recent tweet from Governor Abbott on July 10 revealed that his administration has been responsible for sending over 25,000 migrants to various U.S. cities.
These include Los Angeles, Washington, DC, New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Denver.
At the time of the tweet, Los Angeles had already received more than 80 migrants from Texas.
