$550,000 Spent on Trash Can Designs for San Francisco

San Francisco spent four years and $550,000 designing trash cans for the city. Each “Slim Silhouette” model is expected to cost between $2,000-$3,000, but prototypes cost between $12,000-$20,000. The “Slim Silhouette” was chosen out of six models due to its durability and “make[s] rummaging more difficult,” according to the city’s public works department.

From The Daily Caller:

“We’ve gone through a comprehensive feedback process, and we are excited to be moving forward with the new public trash can design,” interim Public Works director Carla Short told the outlet. “The new design will be one of our tools in improving the street and sidewalk cleanliness in San Francisco.”
