28% Of Americans Believe Trans Athletes Should Compete in Female Sports

40% of poll respondents believe embracing transgender ideology is “good.”

QUICK FACTS:
  • A poll from the Washington Post and the University of Maryland suggests only 28% of Americans support transgender participation in female athletics, according to a report from Summit News.
  • The poll questioned participants if “transgender women should not be allowed to compete with other women and girls” in collegiate or professional-level athletics.
  • While 28% of participants believe biological males should have the right to compete against women, 58% of respondents stated biological males should be prohibited from participation.
  • Regarding youth athletics, 68% claimed transgender athletes “would have a competitive advantage over other girls,” with only 33% of participants responding with an affirmative on trans-youth involvement in female sports.
  • According to the survey’s conclusion, 40% of all respondents believe that more social acceptance of transgender people is positive and “good” for society, while 25% believe the contrary and 35% held no strong opinion on the matter.
SCIENTIFIC TRANS-ATHLETE ADVANTAGES:
  • Following transgender-athlete Lia Thomas’ success in women’s swimming, 16 University of Pennsylvania teammates admitted they felt their competitor had “an unfair advantage” due to biological sex.
  • Sports physiologist Dr. Ross Tucker responded to Lia Thomas’ recent NCAA Division 1 victory by stating, “The reduction in testosterone did not remove her biological advantage.”
  • Even with testosterone suppression, biological males have natural, scientifically-supported athletic advantages due to their physiology, resulting in a “large performance gap” between males and females, Harvard lecturer Dr. Carole Hooven notes.
BACKGROUND:
