A 7-year-old girl is in critical condition at a Utah hospital after authorities say her mother shot her and her three sisters before taking her own life.
Sisters Brailey (9) and Olivia (7) Blackmer were inseparable, splitting their time between their father’s home in Utahand their mother’s home in Wyoming. Tragically, last Monday, their 32-year-old mother reportedly shot all four of her daughters at their Byron, Wyoming residence before turning the gun on herself.
Olivia, the sole survivor, was airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she remains in critical condition.
“She has severe brain trauma, and doctors are monitoring swelling minute by minute,” said Korbin Goulding, the brother-in-law of Olivia’s father, Quinn Blackmer.
Despite her injuries, Olivia is showing signs of resilience. “Her spunky fighting spirit is shining through,” said her stepmother, Katelynn Blackmer.
“They have her heavily sedated. Essentially, the bullet went through from one side of her head to the other,” Goulding said.
“They are trying to put their best foot forward in a terrible situation. They are just devastated and just are asking for prayers and love for this little girl,” Denise Beatty, a family friend of the Blackmers said.
The Blackmer family is devastated but leaning on faith, believing Brailey is now Olivia’s guardian angel.
“Brailey is her little angel up in heaven looking over Olivia, and she’s watching over her while she’s fighting for her life,” Beatty said.
Two GoFundMe pages have been created for Olivia’s recovery, each surpassing $100,000 in donations as the community rallies around the grieving family.
