A young man in Texas reportedly drowned this week attempting to save a teenage girl in a lake.
21-year-old, Lincer Lopez, passed away in Lake Waxahachie, Texas, just an hour after being baptized.
Lopez had just participated in a church baptism when he jumped into the lake to rescue a teenage girl who was struggling in the water.
Despite his efforts, Lopez began to struggle himself. While the girl was successfully rescued and revived by a boater, Lopez was rushed to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His uncle described him as a hero.
“He was a hero,” Lopez’s uncle, Jacobo Lopez said.
“He didn’t think twice about rescuing someone else. He didn’t think about the risk that he could die. And he did risk his life to save somebody else’s,” he added.
Lopez and the girl were both part of a large church group from Garland who had been swimming in the lake after multiple baptisms were performed.
“He was a hero, he had just been baptized and gave his life to the lord, and our family, we pray for his family, and we pray for the little girl’s family,” Jacob Bell, the boater who pulled the girl from the lake and gave her CPR, said.
“And he was a strong boy, they should be very proud of him.”
