One of Fani Willis’ former colleagues testified on whether the Fulton County district attorney’s relationship with prosecutor Nathan Wade should result in her being disqualified from Donald Trump’s election interference case.
Robin Yearti said during the hearing that Willis’ relationship with Wade was “romantic” in nature and began in 2019.
“When I ask you ‘personal,’ you take that to mean romantic?” Yearti was asked, to which she said, “Yes.”
“And do you understand that their relationship began in 2019 and continued until the last time you spoke with her?” she was asked, to which she again responded, “Yes.”
Willis’ former colleague noted there was “no doubt” in her mind that the district attorney and prosecutor were involved in a romantic relationship.
“You have no doubt that their romantic relationship was in effect from 2019 until the last time you spoke with her?” Yearti was asked, to which she confirmed, “No doubt.”
The witness also said that she saw Willis and Wade engaging in affectionate behavior before Wade became the lead prosecutor in the Trump election case.
Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee recently declared that Willis may be disqualified from the Trump case.
“I think it’s clear that disqualification can occur if evidence is produced demonstrating an actual conflict or the appearance of one,” McAfee said during a hearing.
Willis and Wade have admitted to having a “personal relationship” with each other, although they claim the relationship began in 2022, not in 2019 as Yearti described.
“In 2022, District Attorney Willis and I developed a personal relationship in addition to our professional association and friendship,” the document details.
According to the document, the DA and prosecutor were not engaged in a “personal relationship” in November 2021, “at the time of Special Prosecutor Wade’s appointment.”
