Winter Storms Across U.S. To Disrupt Thanksgiving Day Travel

Thanksgiving travelers should prepare for significant disruptions this week as storms threaten to impact both air and road travel across the United States. According to the FOX Forecast Center, severe weather is expected to cause complications from Thanksgiving Day through Black Friday and into the weekend.

The Northeast will likely see the worst of the conditions, with snow forecasted to blanket areas from Iowa to Maine. Upstate New York, Vermont’s Green Mountains, and New Hampshire’s White Mountains could see heavy accumulation.

Major highways like Interstates 81 and 90, which connect cities such as Syracuse, Buffalo, and Binghamton, are expected to face significant delays due to hazardous conditions.

Meanwhile, a separate storm system is expected to bring heavy rain and mountain snow to the West, adding to travel challenges in that region.

In the South, parts of the Tennessee Valley and Southeast are bracing for storms, with major airports like Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) likely to experience delays and cancellations.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has also warned that “below normal” temperatures will sweep across much of the continental U.S. in the wake of these storms, extending the weather-related difficulties through the holiday weekend.

Travelers are advised to monitor weather updates closely and plan for delays.
