The White House released a new national security strategy centered on the “America First” platform, focusing on curbing illegal immigration and U.S. dominance.
“In everything we do, we are putting America First,” President Trump wrote in a letter accompanying the strategy. “What follows is a National Security Strategy to describe and build upon the extraordinary strides we have made.”
Discussing the principle of the Primacy of Nations, the strategy states, “The United States will put our own interests first and, in our relations with other nations, encourage them to prioritize their own interests as well. We stand for the sovereign rights of nations, against the sovereignty-sapping incursions of the most intrusive transnational organizations, and for reforming those institutions so that they assist rather than hinder individual sovereignty and further American interests.”
The United States further seeks to avoid “forever wars,” instead seeking a “balance of power” across nations. “The United States cannot allow any nation to become so dominant that it could threaten our interests,” the strategy says. “We will work with allies and partners to maintain global and regional balances of power to prevent the emergence of dominant adversaries.” It adds that the “days of the United States propping up the entire world order like Atlas are over.”
Explaining the U.S. strategy on border control and immigration, the White House strategy declares that a controlled border is “fundamental to the survival of the United States as a sovereign republic.”
Noting trade relationships, the strategy notes that America is distinct from the rest of the world in its “openness, transparency, trustworthiness, commitment to freedom and innovation, and free market capitalism,” values which will “make us the global partner of first choice.”
Similarly, Pentagon released a defense strategy last month, defining key areas that will bolster the “future of American military superiority.” The six areas, Applied Artificial Intelligence (AAI), Biomanufacturing (BIO), Contested Logistics Technologies (LOG), Quantum and Battlefield Information Dominance (Q-BID), Scaled Directed Energy (SCADE), and Scaled Hypersonics (SHY), will address challenges presented on the battlefield.
