Whoopi Goldberg’s Iran Comparison Slammed by Wesley Hunt for Ignoring American Progress

Rep. Wesley Hunt strongly pushed back against Whoopi Goldberg’s inflammatory remarks on “The View,” where she likened life for Black Americans to conditions under Iran’s theocratic regime. The Texas Republican joined Bill Maher on “Real Time” to call out what he sees as a gross misrepresentation of Black life in America.

Goldberg sparked criticism after interrupting a discussion on Iran’s abuses by stating, “Let’s not do that… we have been known in this country to tie gay folks to the car… they used to just keep hanging Black people.”

Wesley Hunt dismissed the comparison, pointing to his own success as evidence of America’s opportunity. “My district in the great state of Texas is actually a white majority district that President Trump would have won by 25 points,” Hunt said. “I am literally being judged not by the color of my skin but by the content of my character.”

The congressman added, “That’s the progress… So I don’t ever want to hear Whoopi Goldberg’s conversation about how it’s worse to be Black in America right now.”

He also rejected token gestures like Black History Month and Juneteenth as political theatrics. “I don’t want Black History Month. I don’t want all these days to make everybody feel special. I’m an ‘80s baby. Everybody’s too sensitive anyway. We’re all Americans anyway.”

Maher concluded by suggesting Democrats need to move beyond “crazy woke” rhetoric and start with accountability for platforms like “The View.”
