‘We Can Build a Regional and International Coalition’ to Fight Hamas: French President Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron said in a speech alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel has a “legitimate right to defend itself.”

“This cause is just, period,” Macron stated.

Speaking to reporters at a joint news conference, the French president stated, “We should build a regional and international coalition to battle against terrorist groups that threaten us all.”

While it remains unknown what a “coalition” would look like, some speculate that Macron’s idea “draws inspiration from the experience of the Global Coalition against [Islamic State] and seeing what aspects can be replicated against Hamas.”

Macron also called for a “decisive relaunch” of political negotiations.

“Israel’s security cannot be sustainable without a decisive relaunch of the political process with the Palestinians,” he said, adding that Israel will need to recognize the “legitimate right of the Palestinians to have a territory and a state in peace and security alongside Israel.”

According to Breitbart, PM Netanyahu said that the war in Israel is a conflict between radical Islam and Western civilization.

“The test for the West and for civilization is Hamas,” he explained. “If Hamas emerges victorious, we will all lose, Europe will be endangered, everyone will be endangered, civilisation will be endangered.”

“That is why this battle is not merely our own, it’s Europe’s battle, it’s America’s battle, it’s civilization’s battle. It’s a battle for the heart and soul of the Middle East and the Arab world.”
