Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) sparked backlash Wednesday after falsely claiming that 6,000 food trucks are lined up at the Gaza border and being blocked by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In her post on X, Warren declared, “Netanyahu’s government has created an epic disaster in Gaza. 6,000 food trucks are lined up at the border, children are starving, and still Netanyahu blocks help. History will remember this moment.”
Her claim grossly distorted remarks by U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) chief Philippe Lazzarini, who said the agency had “the equivalent of 6,000 loaded trucks of food and medical supplies.” Lazzarini never claimed thousands of trucks were physically waiting at the border—a convoy that would stretch between 45 and 67 miles.
Warren’s rhetoric is the latest in a string of attacks against Israel since Hamas’s October 7, 2023, terrorist massacre, which killed over 1,200 people. She has accused Israel of “genocide,” boycotted Netanyahu’s address to Congress, and used the attack’s anniversary to accuse him of “unleashing unthinkable violence.”
Meanwhile, UNRWA faces mounting evidence of deep ties to terrorism. Israeli intelligence reports found that roughly 1,200 UNRWA employees were linked to terrorist groups, and nearly half had close relatives tied to terrorism. Some staff even participated in the October 7 attack.
While Warren peddles misinformation, Israel has already paused military operations daily in several areas to allow humanitarian aid.
