Vivek Ramaswamy will not move forward with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a spokesperson said.
“Vivek Ramaswamy played a critical role in helping us create DOGE,” spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement. “He intends to run for elected office soon, which requires him to remain outside of DOGE, based on the structure that we announced today. We thank him immensely for his contributions over the last 2 months and expect him to play a vital role in making America great again.”
Ramaswamy confirmed his departure. “It was my honor to help support the creation of DOGE. I’m confident that Elon & team will succeed in streamlining government,” he wrote on X. “I’ll have more to say very soon about my future plans in Ohio. Most importantly, we’re all-in to help President Trump make America great again!”
Upon being initially tapped for DOGE alongside Elon Musk, then-President-elect Donald Trump said “these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies – Essential to the ‘Save America’ Movement.”
At least four lawsuits have been filed against DOGE. One lawsuit was filed by groups the American Federation of Teachers, Minority Veterans of America, the American Public Health Association, the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, the Center for Auto safety, and VoteVets Action Fund. Another was filed by the Center for Biological Diversity. Other lawsuits were filed by the National Security Counselors and by Public Citizen.
