Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin Sets Up Tip Line To Report Schools Teaching CRT

Newly sworn-in Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin lets parents report schools teaching Critical Race Theory.

QUICK FACTS:
  • According to the New York Post, Youngkin created a new “Help Education” email address Monday that is available “for parents to send us any instances where they feel their fundamental rights are being violated, where their children are not being respected and where there are inherently divisive practices in their schools.”
  • This will help enforce his new executive order that bans the use of CRT and other “divisive concepts” in public schools, Youngkin told radio host John Fredericks.
  • Following an incident where a Fairfax County high school’s lesson plan included playing “Privilege Bingo,” Gov. Youngkin said this was “exactly why I signed that executive order.”
  • The governor went on to say that teaching critical race theory in schools was dividing groups into those being blamed for the past and those who are victims.
  • “We’re asking folks to send us reports and observations that will help us be aware of things like Privilege Bingo,” Youngkin continued.
YOUNGKIN ON INCLUDING PARENTS IN EDUCATION:

“We’re asking for input from parents to make sure we can go to the right source.”

BACKGROUND:
  • When campaigning in November 2021, Gov. Youngkin said he had a “big agenda” to restore the excellence of Virginia schools, promising to ban critical race theory and embrace parents rather than ignoring them.
  • “I’ve been very clear parents are going to be engaged in their schools. And we’re going to make sure that we have a really, really effective communication loop with parents so that we can take input. There’s just a new way of thinking about engaging with parents that we’re going to press forward with,” Youngkin said.
