Vance Refers Walz to DOJ

Vice President JD Vance has officially referred Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) to the Department of Justice for a criminal investigation surrounding fraud.

“I’ve referred these allegations to DOJ’s new Fraud Division for criminal investigation,” Vance announced on X. “Minnesota state officials are not above the law, and if they facilitated fraud, lied under oath about what they knew, or harassed and intimated whistleblowers, they must face justice.”

Vance shared a letter he wrote to Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald detailing a letter he received from House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) that discussed “shocking allegations about the failure of senior officials in the Minnesota government to address widespread fraud in federally funded social services programs in the state.”

“If state officials in Minnesota or anywhere else in the country facilitated fraud or looked the other way while this theft was happening, if they actively prevented state and federal officials from stopping fraud and bringing fraudsters to justice, or if they intimidated and harassed whistleblowers who courageously tried to shine a light on this problem, they must be held accountable,” Vance’s letter adds, urging the National Fraud Enforcement Division to “open investigations to uncover the truth and bring any and all wrongdoers o justice.”

Vance’s action follows Comer requesting that the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, which Vance chairs, “thoroughly review all of Minnesota’s social services programs in light of vulnerabilities created by efforts of state officials who, instead of mitigating fraud, actually sought to cover up or minimize reports and findings of fraud.”
