The Senate narrowly passed President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” in a 51-50 vote. Vice President JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote.
Republicans voting against the bill alongside Democrats were Senators Rand Paul (KY), Thom Tillis (NC), and Susan Collins (ME).
The revised bill now heads back to the House of Representatives.
“Massive tax cuts, especially no tax on tips and overtime. And most importantly, big money for border security,” Vance wrote on social media following the vote. “This is a big win for the American people.”
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) said that since the Republican Party “took office in January, Republicans have been laser-focused on achieving the bill before us today,” adding, “With this legislation, we are fulfilling the mandate we were entrusted with last November and setting our country – and the American people – up to be safer, stronger, and more prosperous.”
House Republican leadership also released a statement on the bill’s passage in the Senate, with Speaker Johnson, Leader Scalise, Whip Emmer, and Chairwoman McClain saying they will “work quickly to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill that enacts President Trump’s full America First agenda by the Fourth of July.”
“The American people gave us a clear mandate, and after four years of Democrat failure, we intend to deliver without delay,” the statement continued. “Republicans were elected to do exactly what this bill achieves: secure the border, make tax cuts permanent, unleash American energy dominance, restore peace through strength, cut wasteful spending, and return to a government that puts Americans first.”
The House leaders declared that the bill is “President Trump’s agenda, and we are making it law,” emphasizing that Republicans are “ready to finish the job.”
