University of Notre Dame May Hold Drag Show for Course Assignment

A course at the University of Notre Dame, a Catholic university, may hold a drag show for students’ course assignments.

Professor Pamela Robertson Wojcik, the chair of the Department of Film, Television and Theatre, is teaching a course called, “What a Drag: Drag on Screen – Variations and Meanings,” and is pushing for the university to hold a drag show.

One of the assignments in the course is to attend a “symposium on drag and performance.”

Wojcik told the Irish Rover that the event is designed to “give students knowledge about an art form that has been misdescribed.”

While the event may not be open to the public, Wojcik is arranging for security to be present “for the forseen protests.”

The event is also co-sponsored by the Department of Gender Studies, Department of Music, Department of American Studies, and the Initiative on Race and Resilience.

Reporting from The Blaze:

Notre Dame's Office of the President did not comment on the allegedly scheduled drag show on campus, but there are some indications that the drag performance may not happen after all. For one thing, the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, the campus building that is supposedly hosting the event, currently has no event listed on November 3, "suggesting that scheduling, the ticketing plan, or some other aspect of the event has not been finalized," the Irish Rover claimed.
