The United Nations changed its course on so-called climate change after spending years issuing warnings about the subject. The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has now walked back from its RCP8.5 projections.
“For the 21st century, this range will be smaller than assessed before,” a recent study in the Geoscientific Model Development journal reads, noting that the most extreme forecasts “have become implausible, based on trends in the costs of renewables, the emergence of climate policy and recent emission trend.”
President Trump celebrated the shift in a statement on Truth Social. “GOOD RIDDANCE! After 15 years of Dumocrats promising that ‘Climate Change’ is going to destroy the Planet, the United Nations TOP Climate Committee just admitted that its own projections (RCP8.5) were WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!” he wrote. “For far too long Climate Activism has been used by Dumocrats to scare Americans, push horrible Energy Polices, and fund BILLIONS into their bogus research programs. Unlike the Dumocrats, who use Climate Alarmism nonsense to push their GREEN NEW SCAM, my Administration will always be based on TRUTH, SCIENCE, and FACT!”
Bill Gates has also backtracked from his previous statements espousing climate alarmism, declaring in October that alleged climate change will “not lead to humanity’s demise.” The statement contrasts with one made in 2020.
Ahead of the annual United Nations climate conference, COP30, Gates changed his tone, suggesting that the primary goal should be to “prevent suffering, particularly for those in the toughest conditions who live in the world’s poorest countries,” rather than focusing on “emissions and temperature change.”
