United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan early Tuesday morning in what authorities believe to be a targeted attack.
The 50-year-old executive had arrived at the hotel shortly before 7 a.m. for a conference when a masked assailant opened fire, striking him multiple times in the chest.
Thompson was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to the New York Police Department, the gunman appeared to have been waiting for Thompson’s arrival. No suspects are currently in custody.
