Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez signed a $1.08 billion agreement for military equipment this week.
“It is more important than ever to redouble our support,” Sanchez said.
The agreement calls for the supply of modern military equipment for ground, aerial, naval and other uses, “prioritizing Ukraine’s key capacity needs.”
According to the Spanish newspaper “El Pais,” the country is committed to send Ukraine a dozen anti-aircraft missiles and 19 second-hand German-made Leopard 2A4 tanks, as well as other Spanish-made weapons such as anti-drone gear and ammunition.
Last month, Zelenskyy claimed that if Ukraine did not receive U.S. military aid, its forces would have to retreat “in small steps.”
“If there is no U.S. support, it means that we have no air defense, no Patriot missiles, no jammers for electronic warfare, no 155-milimetre artillery rounds,” Zelenskyy said at the time.
“It means we will go back, retreat, step by step, in small steps,” he said. “We are trying to find some way not to retreat.”
