Ukraine Received 18,000 Tons of Humanitarian Aid in Four Days: Ukraine’s Ministry of Social Policy

Since March 2, Ukraine has received more than 18,000 tons of humanitarian aid from abroad, and the pace is growing, according to Ukrainian gov’t.

  • Over the past four days, more than 18,000 tons of humanitarian aid have been imported to Ukraine since March 2.
  • The main items coming to Ukraine include food, clothing, personal hygiene products, medicines and medical equipment, and other goods needed to meet the needs of people who have been forced to change their place of residence.
  • This aid is being transported through Lviv, Zakarpattia, and Volyn customs.
  • Cargo is also received through Odessa, Chernivtsi, and Cherkasy customs.

“Thanks to the simplification of procedures for suppliers and recipients of humanitarian aid and the dedicated work of customs officers, logistics warehouses, carriers, Ukrzaliznytsia, people affected by hostilities are temporarily relocated to safer regions and get what they need faster,” the portal reads.

BACKGROUND:
  • Russian and Ukrainian negotiators held a third round of peace talks on Monday in the region of Brest, Belarus near the Polish border, the talks running for almost three hours.
  • The Ukrainian delegation gave their Russian counterparts assurances that the humanitarian corridors will start working normally on Tuesday after being confronted with the issue point-blank, Russian chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky has said.
  • Interfax-Ukraine, a Ukrainian news outlet, reported how an advisor to the Head of the President’s Office, Mykhailo Podoliak, had said the third round of talks between the two nations produced some positive developments in improving the logistics of humanitarian corridors.
  • “The third round of negotiations has ended. There are small positive subductions in improving the logistics of humanitarian corridors… Intensive consultations have continued on the basic political block of the regulations, along with a ceasefire and security guarantees,” Podoliak said on Twitter on Monday evening.
