An immunology professor at University of Connecticut (UConn) has ignited controversy after posting a profanity‑laced tirade on social media attacking voters of Donald Trump and those who did not support Kamala Harris. The posts, described by critics as hateful and unprofessional, resurfaced this week — reviving questions about bias and free speech in academia.
The professor, Laura Haynes, reportedly wrote on the platform Bluesky: “The [Trump] cult is doing everything in their power to keep Americans from getting a good education… f*** every last person who voted for this s***,” referencing a video about proposed education‑department budget cuts.
Ten days later, she posted a follow‑up: “She was right about everything… f*** those who didn’t vote for her & those who stayed home,” in reference to a Harris‑related video.
The criticism of Haynes is not new. The professor earlier called former Education Secretary Linda McMahon “a f****** nutjob” and labeled Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “f****** dangerous.” She also posted inflammatory content about immigration‑enforcement agents, and downplayed the suffering of those affected by reductions in benefits under the Trump administration.
These posts underscore growing concerns among conservative students and parents about ideological bias on college campuses. Supporters argue that such behavior undermines educational integrity and fosters a hostile environment for those holding differing views. Critics, however, defend the right to robust — even “unhinged” — speech.
The university has reportedly been contacted for comment. The episode places renewed pressure on academic institutions to address how personal political commentary from faculty may impact campus climate and fairness toward all students.
