During a recent operation against ISIS in Iraq, at least half a dozen U.S. soldiers were injured, with reports indicating that some suffered traumatic brain injuries, likely from a blast, while others had external injuries.
The joint raid with Iraqi Security Forces led to the elimination of 15 ISIS terrorists in Western Iraq.
According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the targeted ISIS group was armed with weapons, grenades, and explosive suicide belts, and the operation aimed to disrupt ISIS’s capacity to plan and execute attacks in the region and beyond.
“The ISIS element was armed with numerous weapons, grenades, and explosive ‘suicide’ belts,” CENTCOM said. “This operation targeted ISIS leaders to disrupt and degrade ISIS’ ability to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against Iraqi civilians, as well as U.S. citizens, allies, and partners throughout the region and beyond.”
CENTCOM continues to “aggressively” pursue the terrorists.
“ISIS remains a threat to the region, our allies, as well as our homeland,” the statement continued. “U.S. CENTCOM alongside our coalition and Iraqi partners, will continue to aggressively pursue these terrorists.”
