U.S. Sanctions Leader of Notorious Gang

The United States announced sanctions on Tren de Aragua leader Giovanni Vicente Mosquera Serrano for his involvement in drug trafficking.

Mosquera Serrano is a “notorious leader” of the gang and has “overseen narcotics trafficking efforts and murders” in Colombia,” according to the State Department. He is also responsible for “extortion efforts on TdA’s behalf and has managed the financial proceeds of the [Foreign Terrorist Organization’s] criminal activities.”

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement that the gang “remains focused on terrorizing our communities and facilitating the flow of illicit narcotics into our country, relying on key leaders like Mosquera Serrano to finance and oversee their violent operations,” adding that the Treasury Department, “in close coordination with our partners in U.S. law enforcement, will continue to use all available tools to disrupt the group’s criminal enterprise and Make America Safe Again.”

The FBI has also placed Mosquera Serrano on its “Most Wanted” list.

“Giovanni Vicente Mosquera Serrano’s leadership fuels an organization that thrives on brutal murders, forced prostitution, kidnappings, and the destruction of lives across continents,” said Douglas Williams, special agent in charge of FBI Houston, who noted, “No border will shield him from justice. With the public’s help, we will eradicate TdA and end their transnational campaign of terror and crime.”

The U.S. Department of State’s Transnational Organized Crime Rewards Program is offering $3 million for information leading to the gang leader’s arrest or conviction.

The gang leader has also been charged with “conspiring to provide and providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization, as well as conspiracy and distribution of cocaine in Colombia intended for distribution in the United States,” the FBI said.
