A senior U.S. official reportedly told The Messenger that the United States has been planning to evacuate its citizens from Taiwan over the last six months, but the situation has heated up over the past two months or so.”
A “heightened level of tension” has caused the preparations, according to the official.
Americans have not been cautioned about traveling to Taiwan, but the evacuation plans are being kept quiet due to being a “sensitive subject.”
Reporting from RT:
While the State Department did not comment on the report, a department official said that the secrecy was not unusual, as “even talking about an [evacuation plan] starts people thinking something may be going on even if it is just prudent planning.”
