Twitter Punishes Christian Post for Calling Rachel Levine a Man—Outlet Responds, ‘We Value the Truth’

The Christian Post is taking political heat after refusing to retract its calling Biden Administration official Rachel Levine a man.

QUICK FACTS:
  • The Christian Post has had their Twitter account limited by the platform due to the company calling U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine a male in an article tweeted from its account.
  • The publication told Faithwire on Tuesday that they have no plans to comply with the social media platform’s demands that they remove the tweet.
  • The offending tweet pointed out USA Today’s naming of Levine, a male who self-identifies as a female, their “Woman of the Year.”
  • According to the notice that Twitter sent to The Christian Post on Sunday, the outlet had violated their ban on “hateful conduct.”
THE CHRISTIAN POST’S REASON FOR STANDING BY THEIR ARTICLE:
  • “Twitter told us that if we remove the tweet of the CP article, ‘USA Today names Rachel Levine among its ‘Women of the Year,’ then our account will be restored,” the outlet said. “We do not plan on removing the tweet. We will continue to speak the truth even if it costs us our Twitter account.”
  • “The reason that The Christian Post is such a stickler for language, especially when reporting on the developments of transgender ideology, is because we value the truth,” The Post’s senior investigative reporter on sexual ethics and the trans movement Brandon Showalter said.
  • “If we fail to maintain the integrity of what and how we report on these hot-button issues, we do a great disservice to our readers who count on us to communicate honestly. We simply cannot, in good conscience, overwrite the truth of our physiology with words that have no meaning or the opposite meaning.”
BACKGROUND:
  • Twitter also moved against The Babylon Bee, a satirical publication, for their refusal to delete a tweet in which they called Levine their “Man of the Year.”
  • The same ultimatum given to the Post was given to the Bee, promoting Bee CEO Seth Dillion to say he wasn’t backing down and had no plans to remove or delete the post.
  • Since these two incidents, multiple conservatives have jumped on board, calling Levine a man and receiving pushback from the Twitter platform.
  • Forbs reported that the Bee’s suspension served to promote the story, causing the offending tweet to go viral.
