Turning Point USA will hold a memorial event to honor its slain founder, Charlie Kirk, at Utah Valley University on the anniversary of his September 10 assassination.
The event, called “Freedom Built to Last,” will take place at the UCCU Center, a short walk away from where Kirk was killed, Deseret News reports.
“The gathering will honor Charlie as a faith-filled husband, father, and defender of free speech with a memorial that serves as a deliberate act of remembrance and a call for students and supporters to continue his life’s work,” TPUSA said in a statement.
TPUSA Faith is also leading a “nationwide initiative inviting Christians of every denomination and tradition to honor Charlie’s mission to make Heaven crowded by inviting a friend or family member to church beginning Sunday, September 13, and throughout the month of September,” the organization added.
The message, TPUSA said, is simple: “Charlie’s seat continues to be filled by a new generation of faith-filled believers.”
Speakers at the event will include Glenn Beck, talk-show host and founder of Blaze Media; Frank Turek, a Christian apologist; and Andrew Sypher, TPUSA’s chief field officer.
“The martyrdom of Charlie Kirk is the most significant American event in the 21st century,” Beck said, as per Deseret News. “It’s an honor to stand and mark it and shame on those universities who tried to bury it or ignore it.”
According to a statement from the university, the school “seeks to foster healing for our community following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.”
“While campus operations will be closed that day to provide time and space for reflection, service, and connection, the UCCU Center will remain open. Turning Point USA has engaged Utah Valley University to use the UCCU Center on September 10 for a private event,” the university said. “UVU will continue listening, collaborating, and taking the time to thoughtfully support the needs of our campus community.”
