Trump’s Attack Seals the Deal: Duncan Says ‘He’s Making My Case for Me’

Former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan says President Trump’s social media tirades—calling him a “total loser”—only reinforced his decision to leave the GOP. Duncan sees the attacks as confirmation that the Republican Party no longer embodies the values he believes in.

Geoff Duncan, who served as Georgia’s lieutenant governor from 2019 to 2023, announced this week his switch from the Republican to the Democratic Party. In a Fox News exclusive, Duncan said that President Trump’s harsh social media posts not only validated his move but underscored the party’s growing abandonment of moral leadership. “He’s making my case for me,” Duncan asserted, describing Trump’s tone and messaging as incompatible with his vision of loving one’s neighbor through public policy efforts.

Duncan emphasized that his shift was not triggered by a single event but by years of growing differences—particularly over healthcare, Medicaid, gun safety, immigration, and assistance for vulnerable populations—that made him feel he could better fulfill his Christian values as a Democrat. Trump’s response on Truth Social was blunt: he labeled Duncan a “total loser” and proclaimed, “good riddance.” The public rebuke, Duncan said, only confirmed his belief that the modern Republican Party under Trump lacks empathy and moral direction.

While Duncan claims the Democratic Party better matches his faith, critics note that its positions on abortion, gender ideology, and religious liberty sharply conflict with traditional Christian teachings, making his switch appear more political than principled.
