President Trump will travel to Dover Air Force Base on Tuesday to receive the remains of three U.S. soldiers killed in Iran’s latest strikes on American forces in Jordan and Iraq.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Monday that Trump would attend the dignified transfer. “President Trump will attend the dignified transfer of our fallen heroes tomorrow evening at Dover Air Force Base,” Leavitt said. “The President and the entire White House are praying for their families.”
The Pentagon on Monday identified two of the fallen as 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas. Both were killed Friday and Saturday at a base in Jordan following Iranian missile attacks. A third American soldier died Saturday in northern Iraq during the controlled detonation of an Iranian drone.
Their deaths bring the total American toll from the Iran conflict to 17 killed and 427 injured, per the Pentagon’s Defense Casualty Analysis System.
Trump vowed retaliation on social media Monday. “Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!” he wrote. He said the order had been relayed to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Joint Chiefs Chairman Daniel Caine, and military commanders across the theater.
The latest bloodshed follows a breakdown of a ceasefire reached in late June and early July. Trump told reporters last week he believed a deal with Iran was still possible, but said Sunday on NewsNation that he “couldn’t care less” about the agreement with fresh combat underway.
The situation in Jordan escalated after days of American airstrikes targeting Iranian facilities. The U.S. and Iran signed a 14-point memorandum of understanding last month, but the weekend attacks have thrown that agreement into serious doubt.
Dover Air Force Base serves as the primary point of entry for the flag-draped caskets of American service members killed in conflict overseas.
