At a rally in Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump criticized Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing her of promoting “socialist price controls” and going “full communist” in a recent campaign speech.
Trump likened her economic proposals to failed policies in Venezuela and the Soviet Union, warning that they would lead to rationing, hunger, and more inflation.
“She wants to destroy our country after causing catastrophic inflation,” he said. “You saw that never worked before. This is the Maduro plan – Venezuela, Maduro plan of like the old Soviet Union.”
He also claimed Harris’ policies are influenced by her father’s Marxist views, asserting that her approach will only worsen the country’s economic struggles.
“It’s a communist system. It’s what her father — a Marxist, he was a Marxist — it’s what her father taught her from a young girl growing up,” Trump said.
“This is, they tried it. How did the Soviet Union work out? It became Russia, smaller version,” he continued.
A recent study by the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget revealed that Harris’ plan, the “Agenda to Lower Costs for American Families,” could add $1.7 trillion to the nation’s deficit over ten years, potentially increasing to $2 trillion if temporary housing policies are made permanent.
“Based on our understanding of these policies, we estimate the new tax credits and spending would cost about $1.95 trillion over 10 years from FY [fiscal year] 2026 through 2035, or $2.25 trillion if the housing policies were made permanent,” the study said.
“This is partially offset by roughly $250 billion of savings from lower prescription drugs costs — assuming the Harris plan closely matches the Biden-Harris administration’s recent proposals.”
The plan includes tax credits, affordable housing initiatives, and lower prescription drug costs, but faces criticism for its potential impact on the federal deficit.
