President Donald Trump took a jab at Rosie O’Donnell on Wednesday when a reporter questioned Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin about why his country allowed the comedian to move there. The exchange occurred during a press event, where Trump interjected as the prime minister laughed at the question.
“Ireland is known for very happy, fun-loving people,” the reporter remarked. “Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland? Think she’s going to lower your happiness level.”
“That’s true,” Trump responded. “Thank you, I like that question.”
Turning to Martin, Trump asked, “Do you know who she is?” When the Irish leader appeared to acknowledge her, Trump quipped, “You’re better off not knowing.”
White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers later told TMZ that O’Donnell’s departure was welcomed. “Promises made, promises kept. Good riddance!” Rogers said, reinforcing the administration’s lack of sympathy for the comedian’s move.
O’Donnell, a longtime critic of Trump, announced on TikTok that she had officially relocated to Ireland with her daughter, citing the U.S. political climate as a primary reason. She expressed her desire to obtain Irish citizenship, as her grandparents were born there. “When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights in America, that’s when we will consider coming back,” she said. “It’s been heartbreaking to see what’s happening politically.”
The feud between Trump and O’Donnell dates back decades. Trump famously called her a “real loser” and, during a debate with Megyn Kelly, clarified that when he referred to women as a “fat pig,” a “dog,” and a “slob,” he was only talking about O’Donnell.
O’Donnell has not indicated if she will return to the U.S., though her comments suggest she has no plans to do so under Trump’s administration.
