Trump Rips NATO After Rutte Meeting

President Trump ripped NATO on Thursday morning, condemning their failure to stand unified with the United States.

“None of these people, including our own, very disappointing, NATO, understood anything unless they have pressure placed upon them!!!” Trump declared on Truth Social.

On Wednesday, Trump stated, “NATO WASN’T THERE WHEN WE NEEDED THEM, AND THEY WON’T BE THERE IF WE NEED THEM AGAIN. REMEMBER GREENLAND, THAT BIG, POORLY RUN, PIECE OF ICE!!!”

The statements come as NATO head Mark Rutte, after meeting with President Trump, told CNN that the president is “clearly disappointed with many NATO allies, and I can see his point.”

President Trump’s ongoing frustrations with the alliance build upon his previous assertion that NATO is a “one-way street,” as the U.S. assists nations, but European allies fail to do the same.

Asked about potentially reconsidering NATO, Trump told The Telegraph, “Oh yes, I would say beyond reconsideration. I was never swayed by NATO. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way.”

Further discussing NATO’s reluctance to assist the U.S., Trump said, “Beyond not being there, it was actually hard to believe. And I didn’t do a big sale. I just said, ‘Hey’, you know, I didn’t insist too much. I just think it should be automatic.”

“We’ve been there automatically, including Ukraine. Ukraine wasn’t our problem,” he said. “It was a test, and we were there for them, and we would always have been there for them. They weren’t there for us.”
