In the second quarter of 2023, Donald Trump’s fundraising campaign witnessed an enormous surge, nearly doubling its haul compared to the first quarter.

The ex-president’s joint fundraising committee, which includes his official campaign and the leadership political action committee, Save America, collected over $35 million, as reported by an official cited by Politico.

This is a significant increase compared to the $18.8 million raised in the previous quarter.

The average donation stood at $34.20, reflecting the mobilization of Trump’s online donor base, likely in response to the two indictments the former president is facing.

The substantial amount collected during the second quarter solidifies Trump’s position as the leading candidate for the Republican nomination.

Detailed campaign filings are expected to be released by the Federal Election Commission later this month, though the Trump campaign has thus far declined to reveal its current cash holdings.

The campaign has utilized Trump’s legal predicaments as a prominent fundraising focus.

Following the former president’s indictment last month, accused of mishandling classified documents, an appeal was issued to supporters to “make a contribution to peacefully DEFEND our movement from the never-ending witch hunts,” Politico notes.

Another plea to supporters highlighted the need to “prove that YOU will NEVER surrender our country to the radical Left.”

Trump has also been making efforts to attract major donors, with a notable in-person fundraiser held at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club on the same evening he was arraigned in the document case.

As of now, Trump is the only high-profile candidate to disclose his second-quarter fundraising figures.

His primary competitor for the Republican nomination, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, managed to pull in $8.2 million within the first day of his campaign’s launch in late May.

However, his campaign has remained silent on the total fundraising amounts since then, according to Politico.
