In an unprecedented event, former U.S. President Donald Trump was briefly detained at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta on Thursday.

The former president faced felony charges of racketeering and conspiracy tied to his alleged attempts to reverse the 2020 election outcome in Georgia.

This incident marks the fourth time in a mere five months that Trump has been arrested and processed.

Having arrived at the jail for booking around 7:30 p.m. EDT, Trump was released in less than half an hour after his mugshot was captured.

Following negotiations earlier this week between Trump’s legal team and Fulton County prosecutor Fani Willis, the former president secured his release after posting a $200,000 bond.

Before leaving Atlanta, Trump spoke to the media, commenting on his arrest.

“What has taken place here is a travesty of justice. We did nothing wrong. I did nothing wrong, and everybody knows that,” he declared.

Further elaborating on the charges, Trump stated, “What they’re doing is election interference.”

He firmly added, “We did nothing wrong at all, and we have every right, every single right, to challenge an election that we think is dishonest.”

Later that evening, Trump posted his mugshot on his social media platform Truth Social.

Along with the image, he wrote the words, “ELECTION INTERFERENCE,” “NEVER SURRENDER!” and “DONALDTRUMP.COM.”

The 45th President also used the occasion to make his first Twitter post on the platform since Jan 8, 2021.

He shared the mugshot as well as a link to his website.
