Trump Offers to Serve as House Speaker: General Flynn, Kari Lake Confirm

Donald J. Trump has announced that he would serve as House Speaker if elected, according to statements made by both Kari Lake and General Michael Flynn in a Western Journal exclusive report.

Lake told the outlet, “I talked to President Trump last night and told him he would be great and he should do it. He could take Congress from the most hated branch of [government] to the favorite branch.”

And although Trump supports Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for the role, General Flynn also confirmed that “Trump says, ‘I will do it,'” referring to taking the House speaker position, Western Journal reports.

During the vote for speaker on Thursday, Matt Gaetz (R-FL), a leader of the anti-McCarthy group in Congress called the House Freedom Caucus, nominated Trump for the position.

Rep. McCarthy has not yet gained the required 218 votes to become Speaker of the House after eleven ballots over three days.

Gaetz had previously tweeted, “Supporting McCarthy is the worst Human Resources decision President Trump has ever made. Sad!”

As stated in the U.S. Constitution, “the House of Representatives shall [choose] their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment,” Western Journal notes.

This means that Trump, even though he is not a member of Congress, is still eligible to seek the speakership, James K. Polk being the only person to have held both roles as president and speaker.

If Trump were to win the 2024 general election, he would likely have to give up his position as House speaker.

On Thursday, Gen. Flynn voiced his support for Rep. Gaetz’s nomination of President Trump for the position.

“I’m with Congressman Matt Gaetz. We require leadership that will fight the establishment,” he wrote in a Truth Social post, “@realDonaldTrump for the next Speaker of the House.”
