Trump’s Immigration Win, Nearly Half of Americans Say It’s Fixed

A new national poll reveals that 47% of Americans believe the country’s immigration policies have improved since President Donald Trump returned to office, far outpacing the 32% who think things have gotten worse. The survey, conducted by The Center Square and Noble Predictive Insights, marks a significant shift in public sentiment as the Biden-era border crisis recedes under new enforcement efforts.

The poll, which surveyed 2,527 registered voters from April 15–18, shows Trump gaining strong support on border security. While 46% of voters still consider his policies “too harsh,” 42% now say they are “just right,” and only 8% consider them “too soft.” These numbers underscore growing approval for Trump’s immigration agenda.

A key reason for the shift: a massive drop in illegal immigration. ICE reported over 32,800 enforcement arrests in Trump’s first 50 days—nearly matching the total number from all of fiscal year 2024. The administration’s efforts, led by Border Czar Tom Homan, also include expanded deportations, elimination of federal benefits for illegal aliens, and aggressive border closures.

According to pollster David Byler, immigration’s decline as a top voter concern—down to 26% from 44% in March 2024—signals voter confidence in Trump’s leadership. “Trump is at his most popular when he’s taking action on immigration,” Byler told The Center Square. “He cares about this issue more than almost any other – and people can tell.”

Although immigration remains a cornerstone of Trump’s platform, the poll shows mixed reviews on other issues. Respondents expressed concern over federal actions regarding tariffs and free speech, where many said policies have worsened. Still, Trump performed well on transgender policy, with a plurality saying current policies are an improvement, aligning with Republican priorities on women’s sports and gender-related regulations.

The Voter’s Voice poll is one of only six national tracking surveys and was timed to coincide with Trump’s 100th day in office on April 30. The poll has a margin of error of ±2.0%.
