President Trump suggested that a deal had been reached with China on the future of the social media app TikTok.
“The big Trade Meeting in Europe between The United States of America, and China, has gone VERY WELL! It will be concluding shortly. A deal was also reached on a ‘certain’ company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “They will be very happy! I will be speaking to President Xi on Friday. The relationship remains a very strong one!!! President DJT”
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters confirmed that the Trump administration has a “framework” for a deal.
“We have a framework for a TikTok deal. The two leaders, President Trump and Party Chair Xi, will speak on Friday to complete the deal, but we do have a framework for a deal with TikTok,” Bessent said.
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said, “President Trump played a role in this, we had a call with him last night, we had specific guidance from him; we shared it with our Chinese counterparts. Without his leadership and the leverage he provides, we would not have been able to conclude the deal today.”
In June, Trump signed an “Executive Order extending the Deadline for the TikTok closing for 90 days (September 17, 2025),” he wrote on Truth Social at the time.
According to the executive order, the Department of Justice “shall take no action to enforce the Protecting Americans From Adversary Controlled Applications Act…or impose any penalties against any entity for any noncompliance with the Act, including for distributing, maintaining, or updating of any foreign adversary controlled application as defined in the Act.”
