Trump Heads to Walter Reed for Annual Physical as White House Touts ‘Exceptional Health’

President Trump arrived at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday for his fourth publicly disclosed medical examination since returning to the White House, which the administration described as an annual preventative dental and medical checkup.

The visit is Trump’s first full physical since April 2025. Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, the president’s physician, declared Trump in “exceptional health” following that exam and said he achieved a perfect score on a cognitive assessment.

Trump turns 80 next month, making him the oldest person ever inaugurated as president. His predecessor, Joe Biden, left office at 82 after stepping aside from the 2024 race amid widespread public concern over his health and mental fitness.

The White House said Tuesday’s visit is routine.

Following his exam, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything checked out PERFECTLY. Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff! Heading back to the White House.”

Trump underwent a follow-up exam at Walter Reed in October 2025. After that visit, Barbabella issued a one-page summary declaring the president in “exceptional health.” The White House did not initially explain why the follow-up was necessary. After two months of public pressure, the White House confirmed in December 2025 that the October exam included an MRI of the president’s heart and abdomen for preventative screening. The imaging results were described as “perfectly normal.”

In July 2025, Trump received a diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, a condition in which venous valves do not function correctly, causing blood to pool. Bruising on his right hand drew attention during that period, which aides attributed to the condition.

“The purpose of this imaging is preventative: to identify issues early, confirm overall health and ensure he maintains long-term vitality and function,” Barbabella wrote in December.

Presidential administrations face no legal requirement to disclose a president’s health status, and doctors are bound by medical confidentiality. The scope of any disclosure is determined solely by the president.
