Trump Gag Order Temporarily Lifted

An appeals court temporarily overturned a gag order placed on Donald Trump.

The gag order was brought by Judge Arthur Engoron in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ civil fraud case against Trump.

Judge David Friedman of the state’s intermediate appeals court issued a stay, or a suspension on the gag order.

Trump lawyer Christopher Kise said Friedman “made the right decision and allowed President Trump to take full advantage of his constitutional First Amendment rights to talk about bias in his own trial, what he’s seeing and witnessing in his own trial — which, frankly, everyone needs to see.”

Last month, Trump was fined $10,000 for violating the gag order.

At the time, New York State Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron had Trump answer for a statement he made to the media.

“If we had a jury it would have been fair, at least — even if it was a somewhat negative jury — because no negative jury would vote against me,” Trump stated. “But this judge will. Because this judge is a very partisan judge, with a person who’s very partisan sitting alongside of him, perhaps even much more partisan than he is.”

The judge asked Trump to explain the statement, to which Trump said he was referring to Michael Cohen, his former lawyer.

Engoron declared he did not believe Trump and instead accused him of criticizing the judge’s court clerk, which he previously said was “not appropriate.”

Trump was also fined $5,000 after Trump posted a photograph of Engoron’s court clerk standing next to Democrat Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York.

Trump referred to the clerk as “Schumer’s girlfriend,” implying that the court was biased against him.
