President Donald Trump said he believes Hamas will accept his proposal for a Gaza ceasefire within 24 hours.
“We’ll see what happens, we are going to know over the next 24 hours,” Trump told reporters.
According to a report from the BBC, Hamas said it is discussing the ceasefire proposal with the leaders of other Palestinian groups and plans to issue a “final decision” to mediators after talks conclude.
The report noted that the ceasefire is believed to include the release of 10 Israeli hostages and the bodies of other deceased hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
Earlier this week, Trump declared on Truth Social that his representatives “had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War.”
“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal,” he wrote. “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet President Trump at the White House on July 7, and will center on advancing a Gaza cease‑fire, securing the return of hostages, and reviewing military cooperation—including recent joint strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites.
President Trump recently met with freed American-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander, who said that after Hamas learned Trump won the election, the terrorist group moved him “to a new place, a good place. People did everything. They treated me really well.”
