President Trump dismissed a question from a reporter about the possibility of running for a third term, even though the idea violates the U.S. Constitution.
“Everybody asks me that question, and you know that the law is very strong on that,” Trump said while speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. “I’d love to run, but the law is very strong.”
“I get asked by everyone, well, even tonight they’re screaming at the event, ‘2028,’” he said, referring to the Patriot Games. “No, everybody wants me to do it, but the law is very strong.”
Last year, President Trump noted that he does not intend to use legal loopholes to seek a third term. Pressed about previous comments hinting at possible methods, Trump stated to Time Magazine, “I don’t believe in loopholes. I don’t believe in using loopholes.”
Similarly, Trump said in October that the Constitution is “pretty clear,” noting he’s “not allowed to run.” He also shut down rumors that he could run as a vice presidential candidate in 2028, instead telling reporters that the Republican Party has “great” candidates.
President Trump said, “I wouldn’t do that. I think it’s too cute. Yeah, I would rule that out because it’s too cute. I think the people wouldn’t like that. It’s too cute. It’s not – it wouldn’t be right.”
Vice President JD Vance recently told CBS Sunday Morning that he will “certainly have to make a decision about something,” Vance responded. “I’m blessed to have this job, honored to have this job until January 20th of 2029, and Usha and I will absolutely sit down and talk about what comes next for our family.”
