Trump Dismantles DEI and CRT Programs Rooted in Radical ’60s Ideologies

President Donald Trump is actively dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and critical race theory (CRT) programs, aiming to realign them with the original goals of the civil rights movement. His administration argues that these programs, influenced by radical ideologies from the 1960s, have strayed from promoting equal opportunity and instead foster division, racial preferences, and ideological indoctrination.

In January 2025, President Trump signed Executive Order 14151, titled “Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing.” This order directs the Office of Management and Budget to eliminate all federal DEI programs, mandates, and policies, citing them as discriminatory and wasteful. Agencies must report the number of employees dedicated to DEI and “environmental justice” positions within 60 days. Additionally, the order bars federal agencies from considering race or gender in hiring, contracting, or grant-making decisions.

Another key executive action bans federal funding for K-12 schools that promote CRT or radical gender ideology. The administration asserts that taxpayer dollars should not fund curricula that portray the United States as fundamentally racist or push controversial gender theories onto children. The order emphasizes rigorous education in history, civics, and core academic subjects while fostering patriotism and national unity.

Supporters of these actions argue that DEI and CRT programs promote racial division, enforce political conformity, and lower academic and professional standards. They claim that federal agencies and universities have used these initiatives to impose left-wing ideologies under the guise of “equity.” By removing race-based preferences and ideological training, the administration seeks to return to a merit-based system that treats all individuals equally under the law.

Critics, however, contend that these measures roll back civil rights advancements and limit efforts to address historical injustices. Advocacy groups and Democratic lawmakers have vowed to challenge Trump’s orders in court, arguing that dismantling DEI programs will harm minority communities and reduce workplace diversity.

The push to eliminate DEI and CRT programs reflects a broader effort by the Trump administration to combat leftist influence in government, education, and corporate America. With additional policy changes expected, the administration remains focused on restoring traditional principles of equal opportunity, academic excellence, and national pride.
