Trump Border Crackdown Triggers 90% Drop in Got-Aways

President Donald Trump’s return to border enforcement has led to a historic drop in illegal immigration, reversing the crisis that peaked under Joe Biden’s administration. Federal data shows a 90% reduction in illegal alien “got-aways” in June compared to the same month last year. These are individuals who evade U.S. Border Patrol entirely—many with criminal histories.

Under Biden, an estimated two million got-aways entered the United States during his four years in office. That figure has sharply declined as President Trump’s policies re-established border control measures, including ending “Catch and Release” and reinstating detention and deportation for border crossers.

Experts say the drop in got-aways is particularly significant, as this group includes illegal aliens with known criminal backgrounds who intentionally avoid detection. One of the most tragic examples of Biden-era border failure was the murder of Rachel Morin in Harford County, Maryland.

In August 2023, 37-year-old Morin was jogging on a trail when she was brutally raped and killed by Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, a Salvadoran national and known MS-13 gang member. Martinez-Hernandez had previously been caught by Border Patrol three times in early 2023—in New Mexico and Texas—but was returned to Mexico each time under the Biden administration’s revolving-door policies.

He later re-entered the U.S., attacked a woman and child in California, and then traveled to Maryland where he committed the murder. He had also been accused of murdering a woman in El Salvador before ever entering the U.S.

Rachel Morin’s case became a national flashpoint, highlighting the dangers of unchecked illegal immigration. President Trump embraced her grieving mother, Patty Morin, at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, vowing that his administration would prevent such tragedies by enforcing the law and securing the border.

The contrast between Trump’s and Biden’s border records is stark. While Biden oversaw record-setting illegal immigration, Trump’s policies have restored deterrence. With zero tolerance for illegal entry and aggressive deportation enforcement, the southern border is experiencing the lowest levels of unlawful crossings in years.
